The Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) is a wrap around legal and social support service providing legal advice and representation to women living in the north, north east and north west regions (including Whyalla, Port Augusta and Port Pirie) who have experienced, or are at risk of, domestic violence. The service is free and confidential and can be accessed via phone or email.
The DVU provides advice and representation in a wide range of areas, including:
- Debt matters
- Intervention orders
- Residential tenancy disputes
- Family law matters (divorce, children and property)
The DVU Social worker provides assistance with:
- Accessing emergency financial payments
- Safety planning
- Making statements to police
- Referrals to other services for assistance with emergency housing, domestic violence counselling, Centrelink issues and home safety and security assessments.
